This visit reflects our commitment to deepening mutual understanding, enhancing collaboration in areas of shared interest, and advancing bilateral #DefenceCooperation,” announced the Indian Army's Additional Directorate General, Public Information (ADG-PI) on X.
General Dwivedi’s journey underscores India’s emphasis on bolstering military diplomacy with strategic partners in the Gulf, an area crucial for security, economic, and geopolitical interests.
India and the UAE share a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with defense cooperation serving as a vital element alongside trade, energy, and cultural exchanges. Previous military interactions, including reciprocal visits by top commanders and discussions on capability enhancement and defense industry collaboration, demonstrate the ongoing momentum of this bilateral relationship.
The Indian Army chief’s visit is anticipated to include discussions with senior UAE military leaders to explore avenues for further cooperation in defense innovation, joint exercises, and strategic dialogues.
Recently, an Indian Army unit arrived in the UAE to participate in the second edition of the joint military exercise ‘Desert Cyclone-II', which took place in Abu Dhabi from December 18 to 30.
The objective of this exercise is to improve interoperability and promote defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the UAE Land Forces through joint training in urban settings, focusing on sub-conventional operations under a United Nations mandate, enabling both forces to collaborate in peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and stability operations,” stated the Defence Ministry.
Over nearly two weeks, troops from both nations will undertake joint training on various tactical drills, including combat in urban settings, heliborne operations, and detailed mission planning. Additionally, integration of UAS and counter-UAS techniques will be conducted for operations in urban environments.
Meanwhile, Major General Yousef Maayouf Saeed Al Hallami, the Commander of the UAE Land Forces, visited India on October 27-28, and the Commander of the UAE Presidential Guard was present from December 15-19.
Major General Hallami's visit involved significant interactions between senior officials from both nations, further solidifying the groundwork for enhanced military cooperation, exchange, and collaboration in strategic defense areas.
During his visit, he engaged in fruitful discussions with General Dwivedi.
General Dwivedi’s UAE visit is part of a series of engagements with foreign militaries and strategic allies worldwide, forming a crucial aspect of India’s broader defense outreach.
