Oslo, June 5 (NationPress) Indian maritime enterprises successfully secured shipbuilding orders and established partnerships through MoUs with prominent global firms during the Nor-Shipping event taking place here.
A Memorandum of Intent (MOI) was formalized between Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Rehder GmbH & Co. KG from Germany and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) for the creation of an additional four 7,500 DWT multi-purpose vessels. These vessels will feature hybrid propulsion and comply with the latest cybersecurity standards. This development adds to an existing order for eight similar vessels currently in production at GRSE’s facility in Kolkata. Furthermore, GRSE has signed MoUs with Aries Marine LLC from the UAE for collaboration on offshore platforms and vessels, along with an agreement with a global engine manufacturer.
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, attended the MoU signing ceremonies.
During the Union Minister’s visit to the Norway pavilion, an MoU was also finalized between Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Group from India and DNV of Norway that encompasses various collaborative ventures, including shipbuilding, offshore and maritime technology, and enhancing port infrastructure, energy systems, industrial solutions, sustainability, and more.
In his remarks on this occasion, Sonowal stated: "Norway has historically been a valuable partner for India. Our lasting partnership is founded on shared values and a commitment to sustainable development. It brings me great joy to see numerous Indian companies signing MoUs, including with Norwegian firms, thereby strengthening our collaborative efforts in the maritime domain."
"Our governments are also collaborating on green shipping corridors, decarbonisation initiatives, ship recycling, and capacity building. The India-Norway Task Force on Blue Economy serves as a cornerstone of this engagement. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s maritime sector is undergoing a significant transformation. Through flagship initiatives like Sagarmala, we are modernizing port infrastructure, enhancing multimodal logistics, and enabling port-led industrial growth. A crucial aspect of this vision is the establishment of Green Ports and the advancement of low-emission, energy-efficient shipping options. The future holds immense potential for collaboration in offshore wind energy, maritime digitalisation, and sustainable port development. Together, we can explore not just bilateral opportunities but also contribute significantly to a sustainable and secure Indo-Pacific maritime ecosystem."
