New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) In the wake of their remarkable Women’s ODI World Cup victory, the Indian women’s cricket team is poised to welcome a foreign strength and conditioning coach to their coaching staff for the first time ever.
Earlier this year in April, the BCCI had called for applications for the positions of head physiotherapist and strength and conditioning coach for the women's team, which will compete in various matches and tournaments. Following this, interviews are reported to have taken place in Bengaluru.
According to sources close to the situation, Nathan Kiely, who currently serves as the head of strength and conditioning at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), is the leading candidate to take on the role with the Indian women's team.
In addition to his current position with BCB, Kiely has experience as an assistant coach in strength and conditioning with the New South Wales (NSW) cricket team and has previously worked as a physical performance coach for the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).
His diverse background also includes tenures with professional rugby league teams, such as the Sydney Roosters and Brisbane Broncos. Until recently, the Indian women's team had AI Harrsha as their strength and conditioning coach, who played a pivotal role in the squad's fitness during their World Cup campaign.
However, it is believed that Harrsha, affiliated with the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, will be reassigned due to the busy international schedule for both men's and women's cricket across various age groups.
The Indian men's team is currently benefitting from the expertise of Adrian Le Roux, who is on his second term as their strength and conditioning coach. The Indian women's team, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, is set to engage in international play during a home white-ball series against Bangladesh in December, before returning to their respective franchises for the 2026 season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
