ISL 2024-25: Jamshedpur FC Secures League Double with 3-0 Victory Over Mumbai City FC

Mumbai, Jan 12 (NationPress) Jamshedpur FC emerged victorious against Mumbai City FC with a decisive score of 3-0 at the Mumbai Football Arena (MFA) in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 this evening. The Red Miners successfully achieved their second league double over the Islanders, a feat they last accomplished in 2018-19.

With this win, Jamshedpur FC has climbed to the third position in the points table, accumulating 27 points from 14 matches, thanks to their ninth victory. Impressively, the visitors converted all three of their shots on target into goals, while the Islanders faced their third defeat in the last six home matches in the ISL.

In the eighth minute, Thaer Krouma sought to make an immediate impact from a corner kick. Positioned centrally in the 18-yard box, Krouma capitalized on a chaotic moment within the Jamshedpur FC box, but his powerful shot soared high above the goal.

Thirteen minutes later, Jamshedpur FC retaliated when Imran Khan engaged Sahil Panwar in a one-on-one duel, dazzling into the center of the box from the right, before executing a sharp turn and sending a curling cross to Jordan Murray, who was unfortunately flagged offside.

At the start of the second half, Lallianzuala Chhangte took charge, attempting to set a dynamic pace with a solo run that surprised the Jamshedpur FC defense. After receiving the ball on the left flank, he sprinted forward but found himself at a challenging angle. Instead of squaring the ball, Chhangte opted for a powerful shot that thudded against the top of the net in the 48th minute.

Eventually, RFYC graduate Mohammed Sanan broke the deadlock with a stunning finish in the 64th minute, showcasing remarkable finesse. Imran, active on the right flank, delivered a pinpoint cross that easily unlocked the Mumbai City FC defense. Sanan made a perfectly timed run, maneuvering between Hmingthanmawia Ralte and Krouma, and with a deft touch, he sent the ball into the top left corner.

Nine minutes later, Javi Hernandez and Stephen Eze made a move to extend the lead. Hernandez's set-piece delivery into the box was met by the defender, who directed his header off target to the left of the goal. Khalid Jamil maintained pressure by substituting Seiminlen Doungel for Imran to keep the offensive momentum against the Islanders' defense.

In the 86th minute, Mumbai City FC pushed for an equalizer, with Nikolaos Karelis attempting a left-footed shot, forcing Albino Gomes into a critical save at the center of the goal. Jamshedpur FC responded with a swift counter-attack, as Doungel sent a long ball to Murray at the edge of the box. Mumbai City FC goalkeeper TP Rehenesh charged out of the 18-yard area, but Murray's clever looping shot found the bottom left corner, solidifying the Red Miners' advantage.

Deep into the game, Jamshedpur FC continued to test the Mumbai City FC defense. In the sixth minute of added time, it was Hernandez's turn to score, as he surged into the box during a Jamshedpur FC offensive play. A deflected ball from the right flank fell to him, and he capitalized on being unmarked by slotting it into the bottom right corner, concluding a thrilling away victory for the visitors.
