ISL 2024-25: Odisha FC Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive with 3-2 Victory Against Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur, March 5 (NationPress) Hugo Boumous netted two goals as Odisha FC triumphed over Jamshedpur FC with a score of 3-2 in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex on Wednesday evening. This victory propelled the Juggernauts to the sixth position with 33 points, although their league journey has concluded.

Odisha FC's chances for the playoffs now hinge on the performance of Mumbai City FC, currently in seventh place with 33 points. The Islanders must lose their remaining two matches for the Juggernauts to maintain their pursuit of the sixth spot. While Jamshedpur FC has been skilled at managing pressure and executing quick counterattacks, Odisha FC struck first using their opponent's own tactics, achieving the initial breakthrough in the 21st minute of the match.

A swift passing sequence that began in the backline culminated with Hugo Boumous providing a crucial final pass to Dori in the center of the 18-yard box, allowing the striker to deftly finish into the bottom left corner with his right foot.

The Juggernauts continued with this strategy to create opportunities within the Jamshedpur FC defensive zone. Following a tense exchange where both teams vied for possession in the midfield, Odisha FC extended their lead with a goal from Boumous in the 37th minute.

This time, it was Isak Vanlalruatfela who assisted, delivering a precise through ball to Boumous in the heart of the 18-yard area, which the attacking midfielder expertly placed into the bottom right corner.

Jamshedpur FC intensified their efforts to respond promptly, with Imran Khan and Jordan Murray combining to create a chance. Murray took a long-range shot that was well-targeted, but Amrinder Singh made a quick save.

However, Odisha FC remained proactive in seeking further chances; a corner kick led to Rahul KP passing to Boumous outside the box. Boumous skillfully controlled the ball with his left foot and successfully found the bottom left corner, securing his brace and Odisha FC's third goal in the 53rd minute.

Jamshedpur FC mounted a late surge to salvage the game, increasing their intensity, albeit somewhat late. Amrinder's early alertness led to a yellow card for a foul. Jordan Murray took on penalty duties and converted in the 84th minute, striking the ball into the top right corner to narrow the gap.

This was followed by Muhammed Uvais delivering an excellent lateral pass to the towering Stephen Eze, who headed it into the bottom right corner during stoppage time. Although Jamshedpur FC pressed towards the end, it was Odisha FC that secured the three points.

Jamshedpur FC is set to face Chennaiyin FC on March 9, while Odisha FC has concluded their league stage.
