Jerusalem, Feb 10 (NationPress) The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it has initiated airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions in both eastern and southern Lebanon.

An Israeli aircraft engaged an underground tunnel utilized by Hezbollah for arms transfers in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon, which extends from Syria into Lebanese territory and had previously been attacked by Israeli forces, as stated by a military spokesperson.

The Israeli Air Force also targeted locations in southern Lebanon housing munitions and rocket launchers that posed an immediate threat, the spokesperson added.

In addition, Israeli fighter jets executed multiple airstrikes on Sunday evening, focusing on areas within the Nabatieh region of southern Lebanon, the rugged outskirts of Hermel near the Lebanese-Syrian border, and regions in the eastern Bekaa, according to reports from the Xinhua news agency citing Lebanon's state-run National News Agency.

A ceasefire effective from November 2024 halted nearly 14 months of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. Despite this truce, Israeli forces have conducted sporadic assaults within Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah positions that violated the ceasefire agreement.

The Lebanese government has consistently condemned Israeli attacks. After Israel failed to comply with the initial deadline for withdrawal from southern Lebanon, Lebanese authorities extended the deadline to February 18.

Previously, six individuals were reported killed and two others injured in an Israeli drone strike that hit the al-Shaara area near the town of Janta in the eastern Bekaa Valley.

Israeli warplanes have been observed performing intensive mid-altitude flights over southern Lebanon, while the Israeli military executed a detonation operation in the village of Adaisseh, located in the eastern sector of the border region in southern Lebanon.

As tensions escalated, several municipalities in western and central southern Lebanon issued alerts to residents, journalists, and visitors regarding the presence of landmines left by Israeli forces, some of which had been converted into traps targeting civilians, according to the NNA.
