Islamabad, Nov 27 (NationPress) - The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, announced on Thursday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is exploring its "last option" to arrange a meeting with the party's founder, Imran Khan, after being denied access to him in prison yet again. This marks Afridi's eighth attempt to meet Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, as reported by local media.
Afridi stated to the press, "November 27 was scheduled for Imran Khan's cases; however, now December 20 has been set as the date. Since October 27, Khan's sisters, healthcare providers, legal representatives, and PTI leaders have been barred from meeting him, causing our concerns to escalate. They need to clarify their position because if this attitude persists, we will resort to the last option we have."
It is unfortunate, he emphasized, that despite having orders from the Islamabad High Court (IHC), he was prevented from seeing Khan. Afridi mentioned that he had written to the Chief Justice regarding this matter but has yet to receive a response, according to a leading Pakistani daily, Dawn.
Reports indicate that Afridi was obstructed by police at Factory Naka, the location where PTI recently staged a sit-in following a previous denial of access to Khan. He remarked that the situation is "worsening" and questioned why officials are not adhering to court mandates.
On the same day, authorities at Adiala Jail confirmed that the founder of PTI remains in prison and is reported to be "in good health." In their statement, they argued, "The rumors about his transfer from Adiala Jail are unfounded. He is completely healthy and receiving full medical care," as reported by another prominent newspaper, The News International.
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023 and faces multiple charges, including corruption and terrorism, following his removal from power through a no-confidence vote in 2022.
The jailbreak authorities' announcement comes amid PTI's demands for clarity from the government regarding rumors about Khan, urging that arrangements be made for a meeting between him and his family.
This demand is particularly pressing given that Khan's sisters have not been allowed to see him in recent weeks, prompting them to question his safety. Social media users have circulated claims regarding Khan's demise on platform X, leading PTI to urge the government to "clearly refute these rumors and immediately facilitate a meeting between Khan and his family."
