Islamabad, Nov 27 (NationPress) In reaction to speculation regarding the health of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, the authorities at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail have confirmed that the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not been transferred and is reported to be in good health, as stated by local media on Thursday.
In an official announcement, officials from the prison remarked, "There are no facts supporting claims of his transfer from Adiala Jail. He is in optimal health and is receiving comprehensive medical care," as reported by the renowned Pakistani daily, The News International.
The officials dismissed the rumors about his health as unfounded, assuring that Imran Khan's well-being is being closely monitored.
Imran Khan has been incarcerated since August 2023, facing various charges including corruption and terrorism after his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in 2022.
The statement from Adiala jail comes as the PTI has called on the government for clarification regarding the rumors about Imran Khan, urging them to facilitate a meeting between him and his family.
This demand follows reports that Khan's sisters have been denied visitation in recent weeks, prompting them to question his whereabouts, as reported by another prominent Pakistani daily, Dawn. Numerous users on social media have made claims regarding Imran Khan's death on platform X.
PTI has demanded the government to "explicitly refute and clarify the rumor and swiftly organize a meeting between Imran and his family."
The party insisted, "The government bears direct responsibility for ensuring Imran’s safety, human rights, and constitutional rights." The PTI also committed to taking both legal and political measures to counter these claims and unveil the truth.
On Tuesday, PTI conducted an extended sit-in outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after Imran Khan's sisters were barred from visiting him. This marked the second protest by the party in recent weeks.
Imran Khan's sister, Aleema Khan, requested that authorities permit the family to meet the PTI founder. She expressed concern, stating, "Who knows, maybe Imran has been moved. Why are they preventing us from meeting him?"
Another sister, Noreen Khan, indicated that the family would persist in their efforts to see Imran Khan, labeling it unfortunate that the court's directives were not being followed.
Initially, police obstructed Imran Khan's sisters - Aleema Khan, Noreen Khan, and Uzma Khan - at Factory Naka. This led to PTI supporters chanting slogans and staging a sit-in. During a conversation with reporters, Aleema Khan stated that she would remain at the sit-in site until she was granted access to meet Imran Khan, raising questions about the substantial police presence.
She commented, "Currently, it feels like the law of the jungle; authorities should understand that if they do not act according to the constitution and law, Pakistan will suffer the consequences."
She also criticized the treatment of her and her sister by the police last week, labeling female police officers as "shameless." Recently, PTI accused police of using force and violently detaining Imran Khan's sisters when they were denied visitation.
