Jabalpur, Jan 27 (NationPress) An ongoing feud between two families in Madhya Pradesh's Timri village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Patan police station, erupted into a fatal clash, claiming four lives and leaving two others seriously injured, according to police reports on Monday.

The violent encounter reportedly stemmed from a disagreement between the Pathak and Sahu families over gambling disputes. Tensions boiled over as members from both sides confronted each other armed with weapons.

Witness accounts indicate that the Pathak family, comprising Satish and Manish Pathak, attended a meeting aimed at resolving their month-long gambling dispute in the village. Unbeknownst to them, members of the Sahu family were in hiding, allegedly equipped with sharp weapons.

Before the Pathaks could gauge the situation, the Sahu family launched a surprise assault, leading to chaos and bloodshed. Tragically, four members of the Pathak family—Satish Pathak, Manish Pathak, and two others—were killed at the scene. Additionally, two individuals—Vipin Dubey and Mukesh Dubey—sustained critical injuries and were promptly transported to a hospital by the police.

The strife reportedly began when the Pathak family objected to gambling activities organized by the Sahu family near their residence. Attempts to mediate the conflict, including a recent village assembly, did not succeed in curbing the gambling in the area.

The incident has incited panic and outrage among locals. Following the attack, those implicated from the Sahu family fled the scene. Enraged villagers protested by blocking roads, accusing police of negligence in preventing the incident despite prior alerts regarding escalating tensions.

The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) for Jabalpur, Suryakant Sharma, assured the community of prompt action: “A murder case has been lodged, and numerous suspects have already been apprehended. We are examining CCTV footage to pinpoint all involved in this crime. The perpetrators will be captured soon,” he stated.

The authorities have dispatched the deceased for post-mortem examinations and commenced a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Additional police forces have been deployed to maintain peace and avert further unrest.
