Jabalpur, Jan 28 (NationPress) Following the tragic loss of four individuals in a violent altercation in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur, family members along with local villagers staged a significant protest along the Jabalpur-Damoh Highway on Tuesday.
The demonstration commenced when police arrived in Timri village to deliver the bodies for the final rites. Relatives, backed by villagers, laid the bodies on the roadway, demanding the swift apprehension of the suspects.
A considerable number of villagers, including women and children, participated in the protest organized by members of the Brahmin Samaj. Jabalpur MP Ashish Dubey also attended to express his solidarity.
High-ranking police officials and district administrative representatives intervened, encouraging the families to proceed with the last rites while assuring them that various teams had been assigned to capture the culprits.
The altercation transpired on Monday in Timri village, under the jurisdiction of Patan police station, stemming from a long-standing feud between the Pathak and Sahu families over gambling disputes.
Witnesses reported that members of the Pathak family, including Satish and Manish Pathak, had gathered to resolve the ongoing conflict. However, they were ambushed by members of the Sahu family, who were reportedly armed with sharp weapons.
The assault led to the deaths of four members of the Pathak family -- Satish Pathak, Manish Pathak, and two others.
Additionally, two individuals, Vipin Dubey and Mukesh Dubey, sustained severe injuries and were promptly transported to the hospital by police.
The longstanding feud reportedly initiated after the Pathak family raised concerns over gambling events organized by the Sahu family near their residence. Efforts to mediate the situation, including a recent village meeting, did not succeed in preventing the conflict from escalating.
After the incident, the accused members of the Sahu family fled the scene.
Police reassured the community that initiatives were in progress to track down and apprehend the offenders.
