Jabalpur, June 19 (NationPress) In an ongoing effort to dismantle sex rackets, the police in Jabalpur district executed a raid at a hotel situated in an upscale part of the city, apprehending five individuals on Thursday.
An official indicated that the operation took place at Hotel Velvet Inn, which falls under the jurisdiction of Lordganaj police.
During the investigation, conducted with the presence of law enforcement officers, three women and a male customer were discovered in separate rooms and were arrested at the scene.
Another police unit detained the hotel proprietor, Pradeep Mishra, at his home, as stated by a senior police official.
Authorities noted that the raids were initiated following credible information regarding illegal activities at Hotel Velvet Inn.
Initially, the hotel staff attempted to mislead the police during the search; however, they later began to cooperate.
"We received reliable inputs concerning an unlawful sex racket being run in Hotel Velvet Inn. Consequently, a team consisting of female officers was formed, leading to a search operation. A total of five individuals have been arrested, and further investigations are ongoing," an official remarked.
The arrested individuals are facing charges under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act alongside other pertinent provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
According to the official, the women detained from the hotel rooms range in age from 30 to 35 years. The male customer arrested has been identified as Jeevan Pandey, a resident of the area. Interrogation of the suspects is currently underway.
This raid is part of a broader initiative against sex rackets in the Jabalpur district.
Last week, a local BJP leader, Atul Chaurasia, was apprehended in Jabalpur following the bust of a sex racket at a hotel he owns.
Subsequent to his arrest, the BJP has expelled him from the party's primary membership.
