New Delhi, Nov 15 (NationPress) Following his transition to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a notable player trade just before the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) retention deadline, seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja expressed his aspirations for achieving even greater victories with the current squad.

For Jadeja, this move to RR signifies a heartfelt return. He was once among the standout young talents during the franchise’s championship win in 2008 under the leadership of Shane Warne. Now, 17 years later, Jadeja reenters RR as one of cricket's most respected all-rounders.

“Rajasthan Royals provided me with my initial platform and my first experience of victory,” Jadeja remarked. “Returning feels extraordinary—it’s more than just a team for me; it’s home. Rajasthan Royals is where I clinched my first IPL title, and I aim to secure even more achievements with this talented group of players,” added the all-rounder, who joined RR for Rs 14 crore, per a statement from the franchise on Saturday.

Since 2012, Jadeja has been a cornerstone at CSK, excluding the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the franchise faced suspension. In 2022, he took on the role of captain but stepped down mid-season, passing the leadership back to MS Dhoni after a challenging start.

Joining Jadeja at RR from CSK is Sam Curran, an England seam-bowling all-rounder, who is being acquired for an existing fee of Rs 2.4 crore. This marks Curran’s third franchise after stints with CSK and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

“Jadeja's comeback is profoundly significant for all associated with the Royals. He was integral during our foundational years, and welcoming him back now as one of the game’s finest players is incredibly meaningful,” said Manoj Badale, RR’s lead owner.

“With Sam Curran, whose tenacity and all-around skills bolster our team, this signifies an exciting new era for the franchise,” Badale added.

Kumar Sangakkara, RR’s Director of Cricket, expressed enthusiasm about Jadeja and Curran joining the franchise. “Jadeja’s return to the Royals is truly special for us all. His deep understanding of the franchise and the fanbase, having been part of RR’s IPL-winning journey, makes his presence invaluable. He has evolved into a player capable of influencing every facet of the game.”

“His experience, poise, and competitive spirit will greatly enhance our collective strength. Sam brings a unique but equally vital quality. He is fearless, adaptable, and excels in high-pressure scenarios with both bat and ball. Together, Jadeja and Sam provide us with the balance, leadership, and depth we seek as we plan for the future,” he elaborated.

With the arrivals of Jadeja and Curran, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, a veteran of 11 years with RR, has transitioned to CSK. Samson had indicated post the 2025 IPL that he was exploring a change and wished to be released by the franchise.

“Sanju’s journey with the Royals has been remarkable. I’ve witnessed his growth not only as a player but as a leader who always prioritized the team and maintained his composure and integrity,” stated Sangakkara.

“He has invested everything into this franchise, and we are profoundly appreciative of his contributions toward shaping our culture and standards. We respect his decision and wish him every success in his future endeavors,” he added.

Samson’s move to CSK for Rs 18 crore marks the conclusion of a significant chapter for him with RR, where he became one of the team's most influential figures.

“Sanju was with us at trials when he was just 17, evolved into one of our youngest captains, and has been an essential part of the Royals family for over a decade, inspiring everyone around him,” remarked Badale.

“His time with us has been one of belief, brilliance, and heart. Sanju has been an exceptional ambassador for our values, and we sincerely thank him for everything he has contributed to the Royals family,” Badale concluded.

Meanwhile, RR has traded Nitish Rana to Delhi Capitals (DC) for a current fee of Rs 4.2 crore, while Donovan Ferreira, the South African wicketkeeper-batter, returns to the franchise after being traded out by DC for Rs 1 crore.

“Donovan brings a combination of power-hitting and game intelligence. He understands our environment and aligns with the style of cricket we aspire to play. We’re thrilled to have him back. At the same time, we extend our gratitude to Nitish for his contributions and wish him all the best,” Sangakkara stated.

Ferreira’s return injects additional power, flexibility, and finishing strength into RR’s batting lineup. “It feels fantastic to return to a familiar setting. I’ve had a great discussion with Kumar and am eager to play my part for the Royals,” Ferreira expressed.
