Amaravati, June 22 (NationPress) Authorities in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh initiated legal proceedings against former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy along with his associates concerning the demise of an individual during his rally on June 18.
On Sunday night, Guntur District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar informed the press that Cheeli Singaiah (65) tragically lost his life after being struck by Jagan Mohan Reddy’s vehicle.
The unfortunate event transpired on the National Highway near Etukuru village while the YSR Congress Party leader was conducting a rally from Tadepalli in Guntur district to Sattenapalli in Palnadu district.
The SP reported that Singaiah was discovered with severe injuries near the roadside and was transported to a medical facility, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s spouse, authorities filed a case under BNS section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) and commenced an investigation.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, drone visuals, and witness statements, it was determined that the deceased was visible beneath the wheels of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s vehicle. Consequently, the charges were amended to BNS 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 49 (abetment).
The case implicates Jagan Mohan Reddy, car driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant Nageswar Reddy, MP Y. V. Subba Reddy, former minister Perni Nani, and Vidadala Rajini, all of whom were present in the vehicle.
The SP affirmed that legal actions would be pursued against the involved parties.
He mentioned that Jagan Mohan Reddy was authorized to use 14 vehicles from Tadepalli to Sattenapalli, although the convoy started with 50 vehicles.
Legal actions will also be taken for breaching conditions set for the YSRCP chief’s visit.
Jagan was in Palnadu district to offer condolences to the family of party member Korlakunta Nagamalleswara Rao, who allegedly committed suicide due to harassment by police and TDP leaders.
After a video emerged allegedly depicting the victim being struck by Jagan’s car, state minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar criticized the YSRCP leader for endangering lives for publicity.
Meanwhile, the YSR Congress Party has branded the video as ‘fabricated’ and an effort to damage Jagan Mohan Reddy’s reputation.
YSRCP leader and former minister Ambati Rambabu contended on Sunday that the incident involving YS Jagan’s Palnadu visit has been exaggerated.
