Amaravati, June 18 (NationPress) - A tragic incident occurred when a man was fatally struck by a vehicle in the rally organized by the YSR Congress Party during the visit of its President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Palnadu district on Wednesday.
The accident took place on the highway close to Etukuru in Guntur district as Jagan Mohan Reddy's convoy was traveling to Rentapalla to console the family of a party functionary who had committed suicide allegedly due to police harassment.
One of the vehicles in the procession struck a man, who sustained serious injuries. There are claims that YSRCP members abandoned the victim by the roadside. Local residents rushed him to Guntur General Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Singaiah, aged 53, who had joined the rally to see Jagan Mohan Reddy.
A significant number of YSRCP members from various parts of Guntur, Palnadu, and surrounding areas participated in the rally to Rentapalla.
Despite police-imposed restrictions, hundreds of YSRCP members accompanied their leader during his visit to console the family of Nagamalleswara Rao, a YSRCP leader and deputy sarpanch.
Jagan Mohan Reddy departed from his Tadepalli residence in Amaravati by road, with several vehicles from party leaders and supporters joining his convoy along the way.
After offering condolences to Nagamalleswara Rao's family, Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to unveil his statue.
In anticipation of potential law and order issues, Palnadu district police enforced restrictions for the YSRCP chief's visit, limiting his entourage to no more than 100 individuals and allowing only three vehicles alongside his convoy.
The opposition YSRCP accused the TDP-led coalition government of attempting to obstruct their leader's visit, insisting that the former Chief Minister would proceed with his plans.
Police established 25 checkposts around Rentapalla to deter YSRCP members, deploying a large police presence to prevent any violence.
Palnadu police imposed restrictions on Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit following incidents of stone-pelting during his recent trip to Prakasam district.
He had previously visited Podili to meet distressed tobacco farmers and provide them with support, as they were denied fair prices.
