Amaravati, July 2 (NationPress) The wife of a man who tragically passed away after reportedly being struck by a vehicle belonging to former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during a rally last month is raising concerns about potential foul play.
Lourdu Mary, the spouse of the deceased Cheeli Singaiah, met with Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday and subsequently accused individuals associated with State Minister Nara Lokesh of intimidating her to sign certain documents.
Speaking to reporters, she voiced her doubts regarding the circumstances surrounding her husband’s demise during the YSR Congress Party president’s rally in Guntur district on June 18.
Mary recounted how she and her husband had gone to meet YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during his visit to their locality.
“We were informed about my husband’s accident through a phone call, and we rushed to the hospital immediately,” she stated. She claimed that Singaiah had only minor injuries and was coherent after the incident.
“My husband was speaking clearly, providing all our information. How could he have died from such minor injuries?” she asked, expressing skepticism about what transpired during his transfer to the hospital.
She claimed that there were suspicious occurrences in the ambulance, as Singaiah was not promptly transported to the hospital despite offers from YSRCP members to take him in an autorickshaw.
Mary also disclosed that a group of individuals, allegedly sent by Minister Lokesh and identifying as part of the same community, came to her residence.
“They pressured us to sign documents, but we refused, and they threatened us,” she remarked.
Mary alleged that the police showed videos of the accident to pressure her into signing documents.
She is calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into Singaiah’s death to uncover the truth and ensure accountability.
The Guntur police registered a case against Jagan Mohan Reddy and his associates on June 22 regarding Singaiah's death.
The incident occurred on the National Highway at Etukuru village in Guntur district when the YSR Congress Party president was organizing a rally from Tadepalli to Sattenapalli.
According to police reports, Singaiah was found by the roadside with severe injuries and was transported to a hospital where he was declared dead upon arrival. Following a complaint from the victim’s wife, authorities registered a case under BNS section 106 (1) (causing death by negligence) and initiated an investigation.
The case includes charges against Jagan Mohan Reddy, his driver Ramana Reddy, Personal Assistant Nageswar Reddy, MP Y. V. Subba Reddy, former minister Perni Nani, and Vidadala Rajini.
Recently, police seized Jagan’s bulletproof vehicle in relation to the case.
