Amaravati, April 10 (NationPress) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) took decisive action on Thursday by suspending its member, Chebrolu Kiran, for his derogatory comments targeting Y. S. Bharathi, the spouse of former chief minister and YSR Congress Party president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Expressing grave concern over Kiran's use of inappropriate language, the TDP leadership has made it abundantly clear that such disrespectful remarks regarding women will not be tolerated. A police report has also been initiated against him.
Following a formal complaint from TDP officials, the Guntur Police have opened an investigation into the matter, and Kiran is likely to face arrest.
His offensive comments were made during a discussion on a YouTube channel, which sparked widespread outrage across various social media platforms.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) sharply condemned Kiran's statements, demanding immediate legal action. A statement on YSRCP's official handle on 'X' declared, "Unacceptable and shameful! A TDP member has used abusive language against the family of former CM Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. This goes beyond political animosity - it's outright slander. We call for his swift arrest!"
Supporters of Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSRCP leaders voiced strong opposition to Kiran's vulgar and hateful comments, pressing for prompt action.
In light of the backlash, Kiran issued a video apology for his remarks.
Additionally, YSRCP leaders in Nellore district filed a police report against a Facebook account for posting offensive material regarding Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The complaint targeted a user known as 'Ravan Maharaj', accused of sharing altered images and videos of the former chief minister. YSRCP leaders have urged the police to track down the individual responsible.
Incidents of abusive social media posts are not uncommon in Andhra Pradesh. During YSRCP's tenure, numerous TDP supporters faced legal actions for similar derogatory remarks against the then chief minister and his family.
After the TDP-led NDA assumed power in June of the previous year, law enforcement began probing complaints against several YSRCP leaders for their offensive posts aimed at Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Minister Nara Lokesh, and their families.
Notable figures like filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma and actor Posani Murali Krishna were among those booked by police for their inappropriate comments targeting CM Naidu and his associates.
Murali Krishna was arrested in connection with various cases filed against him.
