Amaravati, April 10 (NationPress) Former MP and YSR Congress Party leader Gorantla Madhav was taken into custody by police on Thursday after he allegedly attempted to assault Telugu Desam Party worker Chebrolu Kiran. This incident occurred after Kiran was detained for making derogatory comments about Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's wife, Y.S. Bharathi.

While police were transporting Kiran from Mangalagiri to Guntur, Madhav pursued their vehicle and attempted to confront Kiran, even issuing threats to his life.

The police subsequently arrested the former MP for obstructing their official duties.

Kiran had been apprehended earlier by the Mangalagiri Rural Police, just hours post his suspension from the TDP.

The police initiated action against Kiran following complaints from TDP leaders, employing cell phone tower data to locate and capture him near Ibrahimpatnam.

According to Guntur SP Satish Kumar, Kiran will be presented in court on Friday. Kiran has faced four prior cases, including one for an offensive post about former minister Vidadala Rajini and another regarding comments about Pawan Kalyan's son.

In light of Kiran's inappropriate remarks towards Y.S. Bharathi, TDP leadership decided to suspend him, asserting their zero-tolerance policy against disrespectful comments about women.

The TDP also mandated that a police report be filed against Kiran. Following this, the police opened an investigation based on the complaint from TDP officials.

Kiran's comments, made during a YouTube video, sparked significant backlash on social media.

The YSR Congress Party has condemned Kiran's statements, calling for his arrest. “This is unacceptable and shameful! A TDP member has used abusive language towards the family of former CM Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Such conduct transcends political rivalry; it is pure obloquy. We demand prompt action,” stated a post on YSRCP's official account on X.

Supporters of Jagan Mohan Reddy and YSRCP leaders have denounced Kiran's vulgar remarks and demanded decisive action against him.

Amid widespread condemnation, Kiran also issued a video expressing regret for his comments.
