Key Takeaways
Amaravati, June 22 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have initiated legal action against senior YSRCP leader Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy due to his purportedly derogatory comments about the women of the capital city, Amaravati.
A case was lodged based on a complaint filed by Kambhampati Sireesha, director of the State SC Corporation, at the Tadepalli Police Station.
The police registered the case under sections 352, 353 (2), and 196 (1) of the Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), addressing intentional insults aimed at inciting a breach of peace and fostering discord among various groups.
Further investigation into the allegations against Sajjala, who serves as the state coordinator for the YSR Congress Party, is underway.
Sireesha claimed that the YSRCP leader's comments were disparaging towards women, farmers, and Dalits.
In response, Sajjala has sought anticipatory bail from the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which has issued interim directives to prevent severe action against him following a distinct complaint filed by Deputy Speaker K. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju to Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta.
The YSRCP leader has asked the court for protection from any additional complaints that may arise in other police stations across the state.
Earlier, on June 9, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju called for action against Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy for his comments.
A letter was sent by the TDP leader to the Director General of Police, urging action against Sajjala for remarks allegedly made during a press conference.
The Deputy Speaker accused the YSRCP leader of making casteist statements while defending comments made by journalist and analyst Krishnam Raju during a debate on ‘Sakshi TV’, moderated by senior journalist Kommineni Srinivasa Rao.
Both journalists were detained by police for their remarks concerning the women of Amaravati during the televised debate. Srinivasa Rao was subsequently granted bail by the Supreme Court.
Raju stated that Sajjala’s statements have offended countless individuals in Amaravati, requesting that a case be filed against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
