Amaravati, Feb 27 (NationPress) YSR Congress Party leader and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, expressed his strong disapproval regarding the arrest of actor and party member Posani Krishna Murali.

In a phone conversation with Posani’s spouse, Kusumalatha, who lives in Hyderabad, he extended his sympathies.

The YSRCP president criticized the current coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, asserting that its governance is increasingly authoritarian.

He reassured Posani’s family that the YSRCP would provide unwavering support during this difficult time. He noted that both the public and divine forces are observing the unfolding situation and stressed the importance of resilience.

Jagan Mohan Reddy mentioned that the party would offer legal support and that the case has already been assigned to senior legal advisors associated with the YSRCP.

The Andhra Pradesh Police apprehended Posani at his home in Hyderabad on Wednesday night and transferred him to Annamayya district in relation to a case filed for allegedly making offensive remarks about Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The 66-year-old actor was transported to the Obulavaripalle Police Station, where a police official documented his statement. He was also evaluated by a government physician at the station.

Posani is scheduled to appear in court in Railway Koduru later today.

He was charged two days prior following a complaint by Jana Sena leader Jogineni Mani, who accused him of derogatory remarks against Jana Sena president and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

The charges against Posani fall under sections 196, 353 (2), 111 r/w 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Similar allegations have been lodged against him at various police stations statewide for purportedly making offensive comments about Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh.

In November 2024, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh initiated a case against Posani based on a complaint by Bandaru Vamsikrishna, a member of the Telugu Yuvatha, the youth branch of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The complainant accused Posani of making false allegations and defamatory remarks against Chandrababu Naidu during a press conference in September, claiming that the actor’s statements damaged the Chief Minister's reputation and incited division among groups.

Posani, who previously held the position of Chairman of the AP Film Development Corporation under the YSRCP administration, faces charges under sections 111, 196, 353, 299, 341, and 336 (3) of the BNS.
