Amaravati, April 13 (NationPress) A total of eleven police officers in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh have faced suspension due to their inadequate handling while escorting former MP and YSR Congress Party leader Gorantla Madhav, who was arrested for allegedly assaulting an individual in police custody.
The disciplinary action was initiated after it was revealed that the police personnel displayed negligence in executing their responsibilities.
Those suspended include one circle inspector, two sub-inspectors, two assistant sub-inspectors, one head constable, and five constables.
Madhav, apprehended on Friday and subsequently placed in judicial custody on Saturday, reportedly breached regulations during his transfer to the Guntur General Hospital (GGH) and a local court, with the escorting officers failing to act appropriately.
At GGH, Madhav was caught using a mobile phone provided by a YSRCP leader, and he confronted the police when instructed to wear a mask while facing the media.
In light of the situation, senior officials directed Guntur South DSP Bhanudaya to investigate and prepare a report. Following the findings, the Guntur Range IG suspended the eleven officers.
Previously, B. Seetharamaiah, Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Special Branch, was reassigned and instructed to report to the Director General of Police.
The former MP was arrested alongside five associates on Friday for allegedly attacking an accused in custody and obstructing police operations.
All involved were remanded for 14 days and sent to the Nellore jail by the Guntur Special Mobile Court.
The incident transpired on Friday when police were transporting Chebrolu Kiran, accused of making disrespectful remarks against YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s wife. During Kiran’s transfer from Mangalagiri to Guntur, Madhav and his followers allegedly intercepted the police vehicle, assaulted the accused, and pushed the officers aside.
After securing the accused and continuing to the Guntur district police headquarters, the group allegedly trailed in a convoy, attempting to intimidate both the accused and the police personnel. Upon arrival, Madhav and his associates reportedly attacked the accused yet again.
Kiran was arrested on Friday following his suspension from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for making derogatory remarks regarding the former chief minister’s wife.
