Amaravati, April 10 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have issued a lookout notice against Kakani Govardhan Reddy, a leader of the YSR Congress Party and former minister, in connection with an illegal mining case.
The notice has been distributed to airports and seaports to prevent him from fleeing the country.
This action follows the Andhra Pradesh High Court rejecting Goverdhan Reddy’s plea for anticipatory bail.
Additionally, the court dismissed his request to invalidate the case against him.
It also refused to provide an interim stay on any subsequent legal actions, including potential arrest.
The former minister has failed to comply with police summons despite receiving three notices.
Last month, the Podalakur police in the Nellore district registered a case against Goverdhan Reddy and four others due to allegations of unauthorized mineral extraction and illegal transportation.
This case arose from a complaint filed by the Mines and Geology Department. He has also been charged under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Reports indicate that all individuals named in the First Information Report (FIR) are currently evading capture.
Police have created six teams and dispatched them to cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai to apprehend them.
There are claims that Goverdhan Reddy and his associates continued illegal quartz mining near Thoderu village in Podalakur mandal, even after their mica mining lease had expired.
In 2019, former minister and TDP MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy exposed extensive illegal mining operations. An investigation revealed that 61,313 metric tonnes of quartz were taken unlawfully, resulting in an estimated revenue loss of Rs 7.56 crore, including applicable penalties.
A police team, led by Podalakur Sub-Inspector Hanif, visited Kakani’s residence in Nellore on Sunday evening. As the home was locked, officials posted the notice on the wall.
The following day, Nellore police expanded their search to three sites in Hyderabad but did not find him. They delivered the notice to his relatives, emphasizing the necessity for him to present himself at the Nellore Rural DSP office at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
However, he did not show up for the police appointment.
