Hyderabad, April 22 (NationPress) The Andhra Pradesh Police have apprehended senior IPS officer and former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu on Tuesday in connection with the alleged wrongful detention and harassment of a Mumbai-based actress.

The CID took the suspended IPS officer into custody in Hyderabad while he was being transported to Vijayawada.

Anjaneyulu is one of three senior IPS officials who were suspended for their purported involvement in the wrongful detention and harassment of Kadambari Jethwani when the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was in power.

On September 15, 2024, the state government suspended Anjaneyulu, who was the then Director General of Police, Intelligence, Kanthi Rana Tata, the then Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada, and Vishal Gunni, then Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vijayawada).

These officers allegedly acted under political pressure, detaining the actress and her parents while circumventing established procedures and protocols.

This incident occurred after a complaint was lodged by Jethwani against YSRCP leader Kukkala Vidyasagar and the police officials involved.

The actress was arrested based on a forgery and extortion complaint filed by Vidyasagar in February 2024 during the tenure of the YSR Congress Party.

The case was filed at the Ibrahimpatnam police station under NTR district for allegedly forging property documents, extorting money from Vidyasagar, and deceiving him.

The actress and her parents were taken into custody in Mumbai by a team of Andhra Police officers, led by the then Vijayawada Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Guni.

Upon the election of the TDP-led coalition, the actress lodged a formal complaint with NTR Police Commissioner S. V. Rajasekhar Babu, claiming that senior police officials colluded with Vidyasagar to target her and her family.

Jethwani asserted that a false case was registered against her using forged documents and that she suffered both mental and physical harassment.

Vidyasagar, who is also speculated to be a film producer, was identified as the first accused in the case, registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Anjaneyulu, labeled as the second accused, was known to have close ties with former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

According to the complaint, the actress and her elderly parents were forcibly taken from Mumbai to Vijayawada without prior notice or adherence to due process. The family reportedly faced humiliation and spent over 40 days in judicial custody.

Jethwani also approached Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha in September, seeking protection for herself and her family.

She alleged that a fabricated case was created against her to pressure her into retracting a complaint of sexual assault she had filed against a notable corporate executive in Mumbai.
