Andhra Pradesh Government Suspends IPS Officer Who Led CID Investigation Against Chandrababu Naidu

Amaravati, Dec 4 (NationPress) The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken the step of suspending senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Additional Director General of Police N. Sanjay on Tuesday for breaching conduct protocols.

The order was issued by the General Administration Department, placing the former Chief of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) under suspension in accordance with Rule 3 (1) of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.

Concerns have been raised regarding the alleged involvement of this 1993-batch IPS officer in various irregularities while he was serving as the Director General of the State Disaster Response and Fire Services.

Furthermore, the IPS officer has received instructions not to depart from the headquarters during this period.

While serving as the CID Chief during the prior regime of the YSR Congress Party, Sanjay oversaw investigations into the Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation scam and the Amaravati Inner Ring Road alignment issues concerning the then Leader of the Opposition and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President, N. Chandrababu Naidu. These inquiries ultimately led to Naidu's arrest, during which he spent nearly two months in custody.

After Chandrababu Naidu resumed office as Chief Minister in June, following the electoral success of the TDP-led NDA, Sanjay was reassigned and ordered to report to the office of the DGP.

The new administration also directed the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) Department to investigate the allegations against the IPS officer.

Reports from the V&E Department indicated that Sanjay allegedly misused his official position to facilitate a payment of Rs 1 crore to Sautrika Technologies and Infra Private Ltd. without any tangible progress on the assigned task.

Additionally, it is claimed that the IPS officer was involved in bid rigging and favouritism during the tender award process, undermining the integrity of the procedure and violating public trust.

The findings from the Vigilance report have suggested that the government take criminal action against the company and impose suitable legal measures on Sanjay according to the Central Services Conduct Rules.

The TDP-led coalition government had previously transferred several senior IPS officers, including those of DGP-rank such as P. S. R. Anjanyeulu and P. V. Sunil Kumar, along with Additional DGP N. Sanjay, IGPs Kanthi Rana Tata, G. Pala Raju, and K. Raghuram Reddy, as well as DIG-rank officials R. N. Ammi Reddy, Ch. Vijaya Rao, and Vishal Gunni.

These officials were transferred either by the Election Commission of India during the electoral process or by the newly elected Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led alliance government after taking office in June, and were directed to report to the DGP's office without new postings.

Some of these officers faced allegations of targeting TDP leaders, including Chandrababu Naidu, during the rule of the YSR Congress Party.
