Amaravati, Nov 13 (NationPress) - Authorities in Andhra Pradesh's Guntur have taken legal action against Ambati Rambabu, a former minister and leader of the YSR Congress Party, along with several others, for conducting an unlawful assembly and allegedly intimidating police officers performing their duties.
Rambabu and his followers organized a rally without obtaining the necessary police clearance, and when their progress was halted, they purportedly issued threats to law enforcement officials.
A formal complaint has been lodged at the Pattabhipuram Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police accounts, the unauthorized rally resulted in traffic disruptions and significant public inconvenience.
The YSRCP members took to the streets as part of a statewide demonstration against the privatization of medical colleges.
Charges filed under BNS include, but are not limited to, sections addressing assault against public servants, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and unlawful assembly.
Despite being informed by DSP Arvind and CI Ganga Venkateshwarlu about the lack of permission for the rally, Rambabu and his supporters proceeded with the event. They attempted to breach police barricades and engaged in disputes with the officers.
Rambabu has faced similar charges in the past during various protests organized by the YSRCP.
On Wednesday, YSRCP activists held demonstrations in every constituency to express their discontent over the privatization of medical colleges.
Former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy remarked on 'X' about the strong opposition from the public against the privatization of these institutions, emphasizing that the large-scale rallies across all 175 constituencies signify a unified voice.
"I take immense pride in our citizens, YSRCP members, and allied organizations who have stepped up to defend public education and healthcare. Their commitment underscores the importance of social welfare over individual profit and their resolve to protect the future of the state," he stated.
He further urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to heed the prevailing public sentiment and promptly reverse the decision regarding the privatization of medical colleges.
