Abu Dhabi, April 11 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar commenced his two-day official trip to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a meeting involving members of the Indian community on Saturday.
During this engagement, EAM Jaishankar emphasized the Indian government's persistent initiatives aimed at ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens in light of the ongoing tensions in West Asia.
"I began my visit to the UAE by engaging with the Indian Community. I discussed the Government of India’s endeavors to safeguard their welfare amidst the West Asia conflict. I acknowledged their significant contributions to the local community during these challenging times, as well as the valuable support of the UAE government in promoting the well-being of the Indian populace," the minister shared on X following the meeting.
Jaishankar's arrival in the UAE followed a successful two-day visit to Mauritius, where he participated in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference.
This trip to Mauritius resulted in various positive outcomes across sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and green mobility, reinforcing India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy, Vision MAHASAGAR, and its support for the Global South. A significant achievement was the signing of a Letter of Exchange between India and Mauritius aimed at executing projects under the Special Economic Package 2025.
In the next phase of his visit, EAM Jaishankar will engage with UAE leaders to assess the robust cooperation and enhance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
Earlier in the day, he announced the safe evacuation of an additional 312 Indian fishermen from Iran to India via Armenia. He expressed gratitude towards the Armenian government for their assistance.
"Another 312 Indian fishermen have been successfully evacuated from Iran to India through Armenia. My thanks to the Government of Armenia and my friend Ararat Mirzoyan for facilitating this," he posted on X.
Armenia has played a crucial role in supporting the evacuation of Indian nationals from Iran.
Previously, the Ministry of External Affairs reported that over 1,200 Indian nationals had safely returned from Iran, with 996 having moved to Armenia.
