Last week, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, concluded extensive discussions on enhancing service delivery and sustainability at the community level, showcasing the upgraded Rural Piped Water Supply Schemes (RPWSS) module, marking a significant advancement in the digital transformation of rural water governance.
According to DDWS Secretary Ashok K. K. Meena, the new RPWSS module will serve as a foundational element for transparency, accountability, and efficiency within the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He elaborated that RPWSS will function as a Digital Registry for these schemes, introducing unique RPWSS IDs to facilitate smarter and more efficient management of rural water systems.
These IDs will serve as a digital identity tag for each piped water supply system, promoting transparency, traceability, geo-tagged data for effective oversight, operation, maintenance, and data-driven governance.
Meena has urged all States and Union Territories to prioritize the establishment of RPWSS IDs by November 2025, ensuring comprehensive data integrity and coverage.
