What Actions Are Being Taken Against Drug Peddlers in J&K?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
On December 13, authorities in Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir took decisive action by demolishing eight illegal structures associated with drug peddlers. This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing campaign against land encroachment and drug-related crimes.
Officials reported that the Jammu District Administration has ramped up efforts to combat land grabs and illegal drug activities.
As part of these efforts, a demolition operation was conducted in Narwal Bala village, in the Bahu tehsil. An official noted that the administration targeted these eight illegal structures belonging to drug peddlers, who were implicated in several violations under the NDPS Act. The perpetrators had been given ample opportunity to cease their illegal activities but continued engaging in the unlawful trade of narcotics.
The District Administration reiterated its stance that no form of illegal construction or encroachment would be tolerated, warning that stringent legal action would follow against individuals involved in NDPS-related violations and other infractions.
This anti-encroachment initiative was supervised by SDM Jammu South, Manu Hansa, and Superintendent of Police City South Jammu, Ajay Sharma, with the presence of key officials from the Revenue and Police departments.
In collaboration with J&K Police and security forces, aggressive actions against drug smugglers and those engaged in illegal financial activities are ongoing, as it is believed that the profits from these crimes contribute to sustaining terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Law enforcement is actively targeting terrorists, their supporters, and drug traffickers, while the army and BSF are stationed to prevent infiltration and drug smuggling along the border.
