New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) Abhinash Jamwal executed a flawless performance against Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga to advance to the 65kg final of the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025 held in Foz Do Iguacu on Friday.

The 22-year-old Indian boxer leveraged his height and agility to avoid Malanga’s strikes while swiftly capitalizing when his opponent lowered his guard, achieving a 5:0 unanimous decision.

Four out of five judges scored a perfect 30 for Jamwal, with all judges unanimously awarding him the first and third rounds. Malanga even faced a countdown in the opening round, putting him on the defensive for the remainder of the match.

Previously, Hitesh became the first Indian to reach the World Boxing Cup final by defeating French Olympian Makan Traore in the 70kg category.

The Indian fighter took a careful approach at the beginning against the Olympian but remained ready for counterattacks.

This strategy enabled Hitesh to dictate the bout's pace, and although he incurred a penalty in the last round, victory was certain.

While Hitesh prepares to face England’s Odel Kamara, Jamwal is set to compete against local hero Yuri Reis in the final. However, Manish Rathore’s journey in the 55kg category concluded in the semifinals, suffering a 0:5 defeat to Nursultan Altynbek from Kazakhstan.

This marks the first global elite boxing event organized by World Boxing that features Indian boxers, with a 10-member team demonstrating its capability to compete with the world's finest, two reaching the finals and four others advancing to the semifinals.
