Hitesh made history by becoming the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Cup, as his opponent, Odel Kamara from England, was unable to compete due to an injury in the 70kg final.
Abhinash Jamwal, another Indian boxer, fought valiantly in the 65kg category final against local favorite Yuri Reis but fell short of securing a win, ultimately earning a silver medal.
Additionally, four Indian athletes claimed bronze medals, namely Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55kg), Sachin (60kg), and Vishal (90kg).
After making history, Hitesh credited the 10-day training camp in Brazil prior to the tournament for significantly aiding him and the team.
“The camp enabled me to learn several tactical strategies that were beneficial during the competition. This tournament offered us remarkable exposure at the highest level, and I'm thrilled to have achieved the gold medal,” expressed Hitesh.
