Srinagar, Feb 18 (NationPress) The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore town has recently delivered a harsh sentence to a notorious paedophile, imposing a term of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a financial penalty of Rs 1 lakh.
The CJM Sopore, Mir Wajahat, issued a conviction order on Tuesday against Aijaz Sheikh, a self-proclaimed spiritual healer, for his repeated sexual abuses against two victims over a span of a decade.
According to Advocate Ayshia Zahgeer, who represented the victims, the accused was convicted just yesterday.
The court reserved the matter for arguments concerning the appropriate length of the sentence. The CJM Sopore determined that the accused would serve seven years of rigorous imprisonment for each of the two victims, totaling 14 years in prison, in addition to a fine of Rs 50,000 for each victim. Rs 45,000 was directed to be allocated as compensation, and the CJM granted the victims the right to seek additional compensation through proper channels.
Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh had been masquerading as a faith healer, exploiting the trust of unsuspecting parents to victimize young girls. The announcement of the conviction sparked celebrations in Mundji village located in the Sopore sub-division.
Unfortunately, Kashmir has seen numerous fraudsters posing as religious leaders, deceiving the local populace. Recently, police apprehended an individual with psychiatric issues who had constructed a replica of the revered Kaaba in Mecca and misled people into circling it as if it were a pilgrimage.
Additionally, five individuals, including a carpenter, were arrested for their involvement in creating the replica at the behest of this disturbed individual. A few years ago, another fraudulent faith healer, Gulzar Peer, was arrested after instructing young girls to enter his bedroom, which he falsely claimed was a gateway to heaven.
