Srinagar, Feb 17 (NationPress) Following a protracted legal battle spanning nine years, a court in J&K’s Sopore town has convicted a paedophile, with the sentence to be revealed on Tuesday.

Mir Wajahat, the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Sopore, found Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh from Munaji village guilty after a lengthy legal process.

The court delivered the guilty verdict on Monday, with the sentencing details to be announced the following day.

The victim’s attorney, advocate Ayshia Zehgeer, diligently pursued the case filed under section 377 of the former Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).

The perpetrator had masqueraded as both a teacher and a religious figure to exploit minors before his eventual capture and indictment by law enforcement.

Residents of Mundji celebrated the conviction, as the accused had gained a notorious reputation in the community. Many expressed that this outcome would offer substantial relief to parents concerned for their children’s safety from such predators.

There have been numerous instances of sexual offenders posing as religious figures or mystics to deceive unsuspecting individuals. In a recent case, a mentally unstable individual constructed a replica of the most sacred Muslim site, the Kaaba, inviting locals to visit if they were unable to travel to Mecca for Hajj or Umrah.

Law enforcement eventually took him to a psychiatric facility, while those who aided in constructing the replica were arrested.

In another alarming case, an imposter pretending to be a religious preacher lured young girls to his home, claiming it was a portal to heaven. He was arrested and faced charges under applicable laws.
