Srinagar, Feb 2 (NationPress) The police in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore town took decisive action on Sunday by filing an FIR against a con artist, while simultaneously sealing five unauthorized dental laboratories in Pulwama town.
Authorities reported that the police in Sopore swiftly responded to fraudulent activities by initiating legal proceedings against Basharat Mehraj Shah, also known as Basharat Molvi.
He is charged with deceiving Mehraj Ahmad Sheikh into paying a bribe of Rs 25,000, under the pretense of facilitating the return of Sheikh's phone, which was confiscated by law enforcement for examination.
An FIR was filed at the Dangiwacha police station under relevant legal statutes, and an investigation has commenced.
The police have also released a public advisory, urging citizens to remain vigilant against such fraudulent practices. Residents are advised to avoid falling prey to scams and fraudulent schemes that could result in financial setbacks and other serious repercussions.
In a related matter, government officials in Pulwama town have closed down five illegal dental laboratories, including those in Murran and the central area of Pulwama, for operating without proper licenses.
"This crackdown was initiated following numerous complaints regarding poor hygiene and the employment of unqualified personnel at these establishments.
"Medical Department officials took action after receiving multiple reports. Some of these laboratories were even functioning from residential homes, leading officials to contemplate legal actions against both the lab operators and the landlords who provided them with space," officials stated.
Tehmena, the Chief Medical Officer of Pulwama district, refrained from disclosing the names of the sealed laboratories. She emphasized that dental labs, responsible for producing artificial teeth and dental covers, must adhere to hygiene and qualification standards.
It is noteworthy that in recent times, authorities from the Medical Department have targeted quacks who have provided medical treatment for years without any recognized qualifications.
One such quack, Qadir Reshi, had set up a "clinic" in his home located in Sadpora Bala in the Harwan area of Srinagar district. He prescribed and dispensed so-called herbal remedies while also claiming to be a spiritual healer.
His inventory of purported medicines was confiscated, and his clinic was shut down. He had been operating his spiritual and herbal medicine practice for over three decades.
