J&K Police Capture Fraudster Who Promised Release of Detained Individual

Srinagar, Jan 5 (NationPress) J&K Police revealed on Sunday that they have apprehended a fraudster in Srinagar, who had assured the complainant that he could facilitate the release of his brother from police custody for a financial reward.

A statement from the Srinagar district police indicated that the Nowhatta police station received a complaint from Showkat Ahmad Sheikh of Zahidpora Hawal, claiming that he had been deceived by an individual.

The police identified the suspect as Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Sultan Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, who had unlawfully taken Rs 30,000 from the victim to ensure the release of Showkat’s brother, Sajad Sheikh, from police custody related to Case FIR No. 55/2024 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

Authorities and security personnel have been intensively pursuing drug traffickers, smugglers, terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and supporters of the terror network.

Intelligence agencies assert that con artists, terrorists, OGWs, and sympathizers of terrorism are all integral to the terror ecosystem that perpetuates violence through coercion, temptation, exploitation, and financial incentives.

J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has instructed police and security forces to adopt a robust approach against terrorism to dismantle its entire ecosystem. This intensified pursuit of terrorists was initiated following several heinous attacks after the successful, community-engaging Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the region. Intelligence sources noted that the peaceful conduct of elections in J&K, observed by diplomats from various nations, has angered the terror orchestrators operating from across the border in Pakistan. These orchestrators have urged terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir to make a final desperate push for the dying terrorism.

Previously, a notorious fraudster gained notoriety for impersonating a Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office. Kiran Patel deceived numerous individuals in Gujarat and Kashmir by offering government jobs, promotions, and postings. He even managed to mislead the local security apparatus by acquiring armed security and a bulletproof vehicle during his time in the Valley. Kiran Patel was eventually captured at a five-star hotel in Srinagar.
