Srinagar, Oct 4 (NationPress) In a pivotal action aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and their support systems, the Srinagar Police have seized a three-storey residential property situated on 15 marlas of land at Rose Avenue, HMT, as per an official statement released on Saturday.
The announcement highlighted that the property, estimated to be worth around Rs 2 crore, is registered under the name of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, son of Khawja Anwar Sheikh, who is the father of the designated terrorist Sajad Ahmad Sheikh, also known as Sajad Gul, according to revenue records and confirmations from the Tehsildar Central, Shalteng, Srinagar.
"This action was undertaken in relation to FIR No 235/2022 filed under sections 13, 38, 20 of the UAPA and 2/3 of the EIMCO Act at the Police Station Parimpora," the statement elaborated.
"The proceedings were initiated under Section 25 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), which grants authorities the power to confiscate properties used or intended for terrorist activities. This operation was conducted with the presence of the appropriate Executive Magistrate," the statement further noted.
The statement emphasized that while the property is officially registered in the name of the terrorist's father, investigations have shown that Sajad Gul plays an active role.
"He has been engaged in facilitating terrorism, spreading anti-national rhetoric, and inciting unrest against the government through various online and social media channels."
The police indicated that this seizure is part of a broader initiative by the Srinagar Police to disrupt the financial, logistical, and operational frameworks of terrorism, including their cross-border sponsors and supporters.
"This action conveys a strong message that individuals or organizations supporting terrorism will face severe legal repercussions, including the confiscation of unlawfully obtained properties," the statement asserted.
"The Srinagar Police reaffirms its steadfast commitment to maintaining the rule of law and safeguarding peace and public order."
Security forces in J&K are conducting extensive operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem.
