A statement from the police indicated, "In an unwavering pursuit to eliminate the remnants of the secessionist and terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, the Srinagar Police conducted these searches as part of ongoing investigations into cases filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)."

The searches were undertaken in connection with a case registered under the UAPA concerning banned organizations, having secured a search warrant from the designated NIA Court in Srinagar.

"The search is related to the investigation of case 'FIR number 01/2024' registered under sections 10 and 13 of the UAP Act at Police Station Rajbagh. This operation was conducted alongside an Executive Magistrate 1st Class at the residences of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat members, namely Bashir Ahmed Bhat alias Peer Saifullah, son of Ali Mohd Bhat, a resident of Zadoora Pulwama, now residing in Rawalpora Srinagar. The accused is currently incarcerated in Tihar jail, along with Mohd Ashraf Laya, son of Gh Rasool Laya, a resident of Jamia Qadeem Baramulla and Old Barzulla Srinagar," stated the police.

During the search, police discovered incriminating materials, including books, letterheads, pamphlets, and letters pertinent to the investigation from the residence of Bashir Ahmed Bhat, which were seized in the presence of the Magistrate and independent witnesses in accordance with legal procedures.

"The investigation remains ongoing. The Jammu & Kashmir Police are dedicated to upholding peace and security in the area. Any person found promoting violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face stringent legal repercussions under the law," the statement concluded.

Police and security forces continue to conduct operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the terrorism ecosystem in the union territory.

Additionally, security forces are targeting drug smugglers and peddlers, as intelligence agencies report that profits from such illegal activities are funneled into sustaining terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
