Jammu, April 9 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, conducted a review on Thursday regarding the readiness for a 100-day anti-drug initiative under the campaign ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’.
According to officials, L-G Manoj Sinha led a high-level meeting to assess the preparations for this significant endeavor.
The primary objective of the campaign is to eliminate drug abuse within the union territory, featuring an array of impactful awareness programs.
The Lieutenant Governor plans to inaugurate a large-scale “padayatra” beginning from the MA Stadium in Jammu on April 11, followed by a similar prominent launch in Srinagar in the first week of May.
Emphasizing the importance of widespread public engagement, the L-G called for the participation of students, youth, NCC, NSS, Scouts and Guides, volunteers, civil society groups, political factions, and the general populace to enhance outreach and awareness.
“The drug influx into the UT is part of a broader international scheme aimed at undermining the future of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. Every segment of society must unite in this battle against the drug crisis,” stated the Lieutenant Governor.
He also directed ongoing and rigorous efforts to dismantle drug trafficking operations.
“Our policy is clear: protect the innocent while holding culprits accountable. We need to identify the true victims of drug addiction and dedicate ourselves to their rehabilitation,” the Lieutenant Governor remarked.
The gathering also outlined various activities and a departmental calendar designed for the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
Committees at both the UT and divisional levels have been established to ensure the effective execution of the IEC campaign and its action plan. The Lieutenant Governor further urged that this campaign evolve into a Jan Andolan with active community involvement.
He advocated for the incorporation of public suggestions along with a feedback mechanism to enhance the campaign's effectiveness. The public should also be motivated to report instances of drug abuse, he emphasized.
