JD-S MLA Swaroop Prakash Challenges Chargesheet in Prajwal Revanna Obscenity Case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 20 (NationPress) Karnataka JD-S MLA Swaroop Prakash has voiced his profound discontent regarding the inclusion of party members in the chargesheet related to the Prajwal Revanna obscene video case, claiming this action is intended to obstruct the investigation.
During a press conference in Hassan on Friday, he stated: “We will consult with senior party officials and contemplate initiating a state-wide protest. Our demonstration will persist until justice is served. It is widely recognized how the Congress-led government resorted to unethical tactics to secure victories in the Lok Sabha elections in this region.”
Following the distribution of pen drives containing footage of the alleged obscene videos, Prajwal Revanna, the primary accused and grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, suffered a loss in the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, which was previously held by Deve Gowda himself.
Swaroop Prakash called upon the government to mandate a comprehensive inquiry into the case to uncover the truth. He also urged party members to remain steadfast despite the ongoing situation.
He expressed doubt regarding the impartiality of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been examining the case, and alleged that the investigation has been manipulated for political gain rather than conducted fairly.
He further claimed there is a calculated effort to diminish the influence of the JD-S and erode trust among its leadership and grassroots workers.
The legislator from Hassan asserted that certain significant figures have been intentionally excluded from the charges, while approximately 10-12 JD-S members and workers, unrelated to the case, have been named.
He denounced the situation as a strategy to distract from the genuine perpetrators. “Instead of identifying the true offenders, JD-S members are being unfairly targeted. We categorically reject this action,” he remarked.
Stating that the party will take legal action, he affirmed that JD-S members are ready to combat what he deems as unjust measures.
“My relatives and party associates are among those implicated in the case, yet they have no ties to it. The investigation deliberately omits names of influential individuals, aiming to skew the focus. The actual culprits are being shielded. We will seek judicial intervention to secure justice and reveal the truth,” he added.
Swaroop Prakash reiterated that the investigation is being misguided by the inclusion of JD-S members' names. He suggested that the truth would emerge if the primary accused, Naveen (A1), undergoes a narco test.
It is pertinent to mention that the SIT has filed a 13,712-page chargesheet regarding the obscene video case involving former MP Prajwal Revanna, a descendant of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda.
A total of 39 individuals have been charged, including associates of both the BJP and Congress.
The extensive chargesheet has been submitted to the Senior Civil Court in Hassan, linked to the distribution of pen drives containing the purported obscene videos.
According to the SIT, 52 names were identified throughout the investigation, with charges established against 39 individuals.
The investigation was initiated following a complaint lodged by advocate Poornachandra, a JD-S representative during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The SIT's chargesheet indicates that the accused procured around 70 pen drives in Hassan for the dissemination of the videos, and the investigation team documented statements from 277 witnesses throughout the inquiry.
