JD-S MLA Swaroop Prakash Critiques Chargesheet in Prajwal Revanna Video Case
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 20 (NationPress) Karnataka JD-S MLA Swaroop Prakash has voiced his strong disapproval regarding the inclusion of party workers' names in the chargesheet related to the Prajwal Revanna obscene video incident. He asserts that this action is intended to sabotage the investigation.
During a press conference held in Hassan on Friday, he stated: “We will consult with senior party officials and contemplate initiating a state-wide protest. Our demonstration will persist until we achieve justice. It is widely known how the Congress-led government resorted to unethical tactics to secure victories in the Lok Sabha elections within this region.”
After several pen drives containing alleged obscene video footage were distributed, Prajwal Revanna, who is the main suspect in this case and the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, lost his seat in the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, previously held by Deve Gowda himself.
Swaroop Prakash has called on the government to initiate a high-level investigation into the matter to unveil the truth. He has also encouraged party members to remain steadfast despite these developments.
He expressed concerns that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), responsible for the inquiry, may not have acted with full impartiality. He accused the investigation of being manipulated for political gain rather than being conducted justly.
Furthermore, he claimed there has been a systematic effort to weaken the JD-S and create distrust among its leaders and members.
The Hassan legislator alleged that the names of several prominent individuals were intentionally omitted, while about 10–12 JD-S leaders and members, who have no ties to the case, were included.
He described this situation as a diversion from identifying the true offenders. “JD-S members are being targeted instead of the actual culprits. We vehemently oppose this action,” he remarked.
He asserted that the party will seek legal recourse, stating that JD-S leaders and workers are ready to combat what he deems as unjust actions.
“Both my relatives and party leaders have been implicated in this case without any valid connection. Key individuals have been excluded from the investigation. This is an effort to mislead the inquiry. The genuine perpetrators are being shielded. We will go to court to pursue justice and reveal the truth,” he added.
Swaroop Prakash emphasized that the investigation is misdirected by including the names of JD-S workers. He stated that if the prime suspect, Naveen (A1), undergoes a narco test, the truth will ultimately emerge.
The SIT, investigating the obscene video case involving former MP Prajwal Revanna, submitted a 13,712-page chargesheet on Wednesday.
Charges have been leveled against 39 individuals, including workers affiliated with both the BJP and the Congress.
The comprehensive chargesheet has been presented to the Senior Civil Court in Hassan regarding the distribution of pen drives containing the alleged obscene videos.
According to the SIT, while 52 names were mentioned during the investigation, formal charges have only been filed against 39 individuals.
The inquiry began following a complaint lodged by advocate Poornachandra, who acted as a JD-S representative during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The SIT has reported in the chargesheet that the accused procured approximately 70 pen drives in Hassan for distributing the videos. The investigative team collected statements from 277 witnesses during their probe.
