SIT Unveils Extensive Chargesheet in Prajwal Revanna Scandal with 39 Accused
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 18 (NationPress) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the scandal involving former MP Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, submitted a comprehensive 13,712-page chargesheet on Wednesday.
This chargesheet implicates 39 individuals, including members from both the BJP and Congress.
The extensive documentation has been presented to the Senior Civil Court in Hassan regarding the distribution of pen drives containing the purported obscene content. The SIT noted that while 52 names emerged during the investigation, formal charges were established against 39.
The inquiry was launched following a complaint from advocate Poornachandra, who acted as a JD(S) representative during the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The SIT's findings indicate that the accused acquired approximately 70 pen drives in Hassan for disseminating the videos. The investigation team interviewed 277 witnesses throughout the process.
According to officials, the allegations are supported by technical evidence and reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
Among those named are A1 (accused one) Naveen, A2 Karthik N. (the driver for Prajwal Revanna), A3 Chetan B.C., A4 Chetan Y.S., A5 Likhith Gowda, A6 Devarajegowda, and others.
The SIT has claimed that the videos were allegedly recorded on mobile devices without the consent of the women involved, subsequently shared via pen drives and mobile phones.
Officials noted that several accused individuals disseminated the videos through their mobile devices, exacerbating the circulation of the content during the Lok Sabha election period.
The investigation is now concluded, and the chargesheet has been filed with the Hassan court.
Importantly, four separate cases have been initiated against Prajwal Revanna, who faces allegations of rape and sexual harassment. The SIT was mandated to investigate these matters.
The cases surfaced after pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly linked to Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan ahead of the April 26, 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Karnataka High Court denied a request to suspend former JD-S MP Prajwal Revanna's life sentence in a rape case, citing the severity of the allegations, multiple pending cases, and potential witness tampering.
Prajwal Revanna, arrested in May 2024 after returning from Germany, has challenged the court's decision on various grounds, including alleged contradictions in the survivor's testimony and inconsistencies in the evidence presented by the prosecution.
A special court that convicted Revanna has sentenced him to life imprisonment, imposing fines in one of the four sexual abuse and rape cases against him.
