Is SP Facing Inevitable Defeat While Resorting to Baseless Allegations?

Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) The political clash surrounding the supposed Codeine cough syrup racket escalated on Sunday as JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad fiercely criticized Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav, accusing his party of making groundless accusations fueled by political anxiety ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
In response to Yadav’s comments associating the alleged racket with the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency, Prasad stated that the Samajwadi Party has a tendency to make serious allegations without providing any factual support. He noted that the SP’s earlier claims of a “significant Lok Sabha victory” are now being systematically dismantled.
“The truth is that the Samajwadi Party is on the brink of a significant defeat. This explains their reliance on unfounded allegations. Rather than reflect on their failures, SP leaders are attempting to deceive the public with distorted narratives,” Prasad remarked.
Earlier, at a press conference, Yadav made bold assertions regarding the alleged illicit Codeine cough syrup trade. “... A state’s Chief Minister lies, and those aligned with him also lie. It’s inconceivable that an illegal cough syrup operation is thriving in the Prime Minister’s parliamentary area… and it’s worth thousands of crores. This is an international issue...,” Yadav claimed.
The SP chief further asserted that the racket is much more extensive than publicly acknowledged. “This is not a matter of Rs 100 or 200 crore. Reports suggest that around 700 companies are involved, with transactions amounting to several thousand crore rupees,” he insisted, calling for strict action against all implicated, regardless of their political ties.
Prasad countered these statements by accusing the SP leader of politicizing serious matters and attempting to distract from their own inadequacies. He emphasized that using selective headlines and imagery does not replace the need for evidence and accused the opposition of conducting a misinformation campaign.
Separately, Prasad also took aim at the Congress party, accusing it of presenting a narrowed version of India’s freedom struggle. “Why does Congress confine the history of India’s liberation movement to only Gandhi and Nehru? Why does it overlook the sacrifices made by leaders like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Rajendra Prasad, Sachchidananda Sinha, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel?” he questioned.
He claimed that Congress has devolved into a “Gandhi family-centric party” and is attempting to erase its own broader historical legacy.
