New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) Amidst the protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) where slogans were directed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Left-aligned student factions, the BJP expressed its disapproval, asserting that transforming contemporary educational institutions into hubs of turmoil and disturbance serves no one’s benefit.

BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi remarked to IANS, "Should modern educational institutions evolve into centers of chaos and agitation, it would undoubtedly mirror the actions of radical groups. Phrases like ‘Modi, your grave will be dug’ or ‘Amit Shah, your grave will be dug’ are manifestations of these groups, whose political agendas are aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"The government will take necessary measures, and anyone participating in such actions will encounter stringent legal repercussions. I assert that transforming modern educational campuses into centers of unrest and disorder is detrimental to the interests of students, faculty, institutions, and the nation as a whole.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam stated, "When bail is denied for factions chanting slogans about fracturing the nation, and anti-government slogans are voiced at JNU against the Prime Minister and Home Minister, it reveals a disgraceful lack of compassion and Indian values. While opposing the government is valid, calling for the division of the nation insults 1.4 billion Indians and is inexcusable.

"Such actions resonate with anti-national sentiments, and we vehemently disapprove of them, along with the opposition and Congress for supporting such individuals. Those who utter such phrases cannot be pardoned. The manner in which these slogans were expressed indicates their supporters, namely the opposition and Congress. I vehemently denounce this," he asserted.

BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok commented, "When chaos is introduced into the Sundarbans, it is due to certain disruptive elements. In the Sundarbans of JNU, some disruptive individuals have been causing disturbances for several years. They inhabit the area, consume resources there, and continuously chant slogans, even making threats like sending the Prime Minister to the grave. Such disruptive individuals need to be identified and relocated appropriately, and the JNU administration is taking steps to do so.

BJP National spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla remarked, "The slogans chanted at JNU... suggest that these individuals are part of an 'anti-national urban Naxal group' aiming to fragment the nation. Following the Supreme Court’s decision against Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid, this 'Tukde Tukde ecosystem' has been agitated. These actions exhibit an unconstitutional, anti-national perspective.

BJP National Spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam stated, "This is a mentality that must be firmly opposed. The Supreme Court’s ruling is explicit that there is zero tolerance for a mindset seeking to disrupt the country.

BJP leader Agnimitra Paul expressed, "Individuals who chant slogans like 'Bharat tere tukde honge' harbor a far broader agenda beyond educational institutions. The sentiments expressed yesterday suggest intentions to undermine India’s security and fracture the nation. For such individuals, prison is overly lenient. On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, we urge the judiciary to impose the most severe penalties. Those who aim to dismantle the nation and its unity deserve no clemency. Those who back such individuals have already faced rejection from the populace, a reality now evident to all.

The event transpired on Monday evening, shortly after the Supreme Court denied bail to former JNU students Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam connected to the 2020 Delhi riots case.

Approximately 30 to 40 students linked with the Democratic Students' Federation (DSF), the All India Students' Association (AISA), and the Students' Federation of India (SFI) conducted a protest, chanting anti-government slogans on campus. Among the slogans shouted was 'Modi-Shah ki kabra khudegi, JNU ki dharti par.'

Point of View

The events at JNU reflect deep divisions within the student community and broader society. While dissent is a fundamental aspect of democracy, the call for violence and division is unacceptable. Educational institutions must remain spaces for constructive dialogue rather than conflict, and it is essential for all stakeholders to prioritize national unity.
