New Delhi, Nov 12 (NationPress) Young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel emphasized that there is no rivalry between him and senior wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, highlighting that their primary goal is to contribute to India's triumph in Test cricket.
Jurel showcased remarkable performances during India’s 2-0 Test series victory over the West Indies last month, including his first Test century in Ahmedabad. With Pant returning for the upcoming series against South Africa after recovering from a right foot injury, the Indian team is contemplating the possibility of fielding both keepers in the same lineup.
"There is no competition between me and Rishabh bhai. We are both playing for India, and our goal remains the same: to ensure India's victory. If he plays, I am delighted. If I play, I am equally glad. If we both play together, that’s even better. The focus is entirely on the team," Jurel stated during an interview on JioStar.
Since making his Test debut against England in February 2024, Jurel's star has been on the rise. "Making my debut for India was a surreal experience. Playing Test cricket has been my childhood ambition, and receiving that first cap felt like I was on cloud nine. It was exceptionally special," he reminisced.
Discussing the challenges posed by the reigning World Test Champions South Africa, Jurel remarked, "It’s going to be an exhilarating contest. Both teams boast formidable fast-bowling units. Whether it’s Rabada and Marco Jansen for them or Bumrah bhai for us, there’s exceptional quality on both sides."
“Ultimately, to win a match, you must perform against strong teams. South Africa are the World Test Champions, so it’s going to be a significant challenge. I am eagerly looking forward to it."
In closing, Jurel shared his mindset going into the series: "I am highly confident that I will be able to aid the team. As a cricketer, the best feeling is returning to your room after a match, knowing you played a part in the team's success."
“Each time I step up to bat, I assess the situation and think about what the team needs from me at that moment, and I strive to play accordingly."
