New Delhi, March 23 (NationPress) BJP leader and senior Supreme Court advocate Nalin Kohli on Sunday described the situation surrounding Justice Yashwant Varma as a highly serious issue and confirmed that the Supreme Court has initiated an investigation.

On Saturday, the Supreme Court released a video, provided by the Delhi Police Commissioner to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, which reportedly depicts stacks of burnt cash at Justice Varma's residence.

The apex court also disclosed a press statement that includes the report from the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Varma's rebuttal, and other relevant documents.

Reacting to the situation, Kohli stated to IANS, "This is a very serious matter, extremely regrettable. The videos that have emerged, showing bundles of burnt currency, clearly suggest that something is not right. This underscores the seriousness of the issue, and it will raise questions."

Additionally, he noted that the Supreme Court has established an inquiry committee, which includes Chief Justice of Punjab-Haryana High Court Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, and Karnataka High Court judge Anu Sivaraman, to conduct a thorough investigation.

"Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Delhi Devendra Kumar Upadhyay has already submitted his report. Furthermore, media sources indicate that there are inquiries into how this money was obtained," Kohli remarked.

He emphasized another critical point, saying, "When High Court officials inspected Justice Varma's home, it was found empty, and nothing was discovered in the room. If the cash was visible in the initial video but later vanished, who removed it? It is essential that all these details are uncovered."

He also mentioned that the Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and comprising Justices BR Gavai, Surya Kant, AS Oka, and Vikram Nath, is currently evaluating the case.

"The truth must be revealed, and decisive action should be taken against anyone involved in misconduct as soon as possible," he asserted.

In response to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Varma, who is facing claims of unaccounted cash found at his home, has asserted that the visuals depicting the burnt cash appear to be a conspiracy to frame and defame him.

He further indicated that the incident corresponds with a series of recent occurrences, including "baseless allegations circulated on social media in December 2024," strengthening his conviction that he is being targeted.
