Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 11 (NationPress) More than 30 years post its debut, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" continues to capture the hearts of numerous film enthusiasts, including Bollywood star Kajol.
On Friday, The Academy shared a post on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting its selections of classic romantic films with a travel theme. Included in their list alongside "DDLJ" were other timeless favorites like "You, Me & Tuscany", "The Holiday", and "Eat Pray Love". They engaged their audience by inviting them to share their personal favorite romantic film that features travel.
“What’s your favorite romance film that involves travel? Featured films: YOU, ME & TUSCANY, THE HOLIDAY, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, EAT PRAY LOVE (sic),” the post stated.
It comes as no surprise that Kajol’s choice was "DDLJ".
In response to the post, she commented, “I vote for DDLJ (sic).”
It’s important to highlight that The Academy oversees the Oscars and frequently acknowledges international films via social media.
Last year, in celebration of the film's 30th anniversary, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan unveiled a bronze statue of their iconic characters in London’s Leicester Square.
During the event, Kajol expressed that while filming, they could not have anticipated the movie’s status as a worldwide sensation for both Indians and South Asians.
Kajol remarked that "DDLJ" has evolved into a significant cultural reference for Indians living overseas.
“It's been 30 years, and we are thrilled to say it's the longest-running film not only in India but globally, earning a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. We feel fortunate to be part of it. We never envisioned DDLJ becoming a global phenomenon for Indians and South Asians. It has indeed become a touchstone for Indians abroad,” she shared.
