Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Hyderabad, April 20 (NationPress) Telugu actress and BJP leader Kare Kalyani has formally urged the Hyderabad police to initiate a First Information Report against actor Prakash Raj. She accuses him of making offensive, malicious, and provocative comments regarding Lord Shri Ram and the Ramayana.
The actress, known by her real name Kalyani Padala, filed her complaint with the Station House Officer at the Punjagutta Police Station.
She has also called for action against Prakash Raj for allegedly indoctrinating children through his theatre project, Nirdiganta, branding it as a form of cultural politics. Furthermore, she criticized his remarks that linked the revered Ramayana to beef-eating during the Kerala Literature Festival.
In her complaint, she asserted that Prakash Raj’s statements represent violations of various sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
She highlighted that through social media, she learned of Prakash Raj’s derogatory comments made at the Kerala Literature Festival in January 2026, where he purportedly made serious distortions about Lord Shri Ram and the Ramayana.
In her submission, she included a video link showcasing his alleged admission that Nirdiganta engages children in writing and performing plays that are anti-Hindu in nature.
According to her claims, he narrated a version of the Ramayana created by children in his theatre project and remarked that this was part of the cultural agenda he was pursuing.
She accused him of equating the Ramayana with beef-eating, which she believes directly undermines the sanctity of the epic and the divinity of Lord Shri Ram. The complaint describes his speech as premeditated, arguing he deliberately chose to highlight this controversial theatre work to promote his narrative.
Kalyani noted that Prakash Raj depicted Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman as North Indian migrant laborers who entered a field in South India, stealing fruits from Ravana, who was portrayed as a South Indian tribal figure. He further claimed that the entire conflict of the Ramayana originated from a trivial disagreement over unpaid fruits.
She stated that the video and speech have gone viral, causing profound distress to millions of Hindus nationwide and clearly offending the religious sentiments of the entire Hindu populace.
In her request, she urged the Station House Officer to promptly register an FIR against Prakash Raj and conduct a thorough investigation. She requested tracing the source and Internet Protocol details of the circulated video clips and advocated for blocking the material under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, should it continue to disrupt public order and religious harmony, along with all necessary legal actions, including summoning the accused and gathering evidence.
