What Happened in the Kanpur Bank Viral Video? Woman Employee Calls for Investigation After Caste Comments
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 10 (NationPress) In a recently circulated video from an HDFC Bank branch in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a female employee was seen embroiled in a fierce argument with a customer. On Tuesday, the employee provided her account of the incident and expressed her desire for an investigation. She accused that the situation escalated when the spouse of a bank staff member arrived, used abusive language, and questioned her caste.
The confrontation occurred at the bank's Panki branch. The employee, known in various reports as Aastha Singh, was purportedly captured in the video using inappropriate language and making a caste-related comment during the altercation.
This 43-second footage has gained significant traction across social media platforms, including X.
In the video, Singh is observed standing up, raising her voice, and aggressively directing a laptop toward the male customer. The remark that has attracted notable backlash is her alleged claim, “Thakur hoon main (I am a Thakur),” which many viewers perceived as an intimidation tactic using caste identity.
In a conversation with IANS, Aastha Singh clarified that the incident transpired on January 6 and involved the husband of one of the bank's employees.
“This incident is from January 6. It involves the husband of one of our bank staff members. I myself am demanding an investigation. Earlier, the husband of our bank staff had come and used abusive language,” Singh conveyed to IANS.
Detailing the events, she mentioned a brief disagreement with a female colleague that ended rather quickly.
“I had a minor dispute that lasted about a minute and concluded there,” she recounted.
She further explained that the matter stemmed from the relieving process, asserting that corporate protocols are time-consuming and cannot be executed instantly.
“The issue was that when joining or leaving any corporate entity, formalities are extensive. As a cashier, one is responsible for handing over keys and completing all fundamental procedures. Only then can one be relieved,” she clarified.
Singh noted that the staff member wished to be relieved on the same day, which she deemed impossible under the existing guidelines.
“In some organizations, the relieving period might extend to three months, while in others, it’s 30 days. That bank employee wanted immediate relief,” she elaborated.
She alleged that the husband of the staff member then entered the branch, became aggressive, and questioned her caste.
“The husband of the bank staff came close to my desk and said, ‘Which caste are you that you are showing arrogance? Tumhare andar jyada garmi hai to hum nikalte hain tumhari garmi. Tumhari garmi hum nikalte hain kyunki hum Press mein hain,'” she disclosed to IANS.
Singh added that he requested someone to summon a female constable, questioning how a woman is expected to endure such treatment.
“I want to say, when you forget how to speak to a woman, how much can she tolerate just because she is a woman?” she concluded.
