Vijayanagar, Sep 12 (NationPress) - Over 80 school children were hospitalized following suspected food poisoning incidents in the Belagavi and Vijayanagar districts of Karnataka on Friday.
Approximately 60 students from the government-operated Morarji Desai Residential School in Hirekodi village of Belagavi district were admitted after they fell ill suddenly post-breakfast at their hostel.
The affected students, consisting of both boys and girls, reported stomachaches and general unease. They were swiftly transported to the government hospital in Chikkodi town. Medical professionals have initiated treatment, and sources have confirmed that all students are now safe.
Congress MLC Prakash Hukkeri visited the hospital to oversee the treatment of the children. More information is expected regarding the ongoing situation, and health officials are currently investigating the precise cause of the food poisoning.
A separate incident occurred at the Government Primary School in E. Bevinahalli village, located in the Harapanahalli taluk of the Vijayanagar district.
According to local authorities, over 25 children suffered from illness after consuming hot meals at the school. Several children experienced vomiting while eating and were subsequently hospitalized. Local residents claimed that a lizard had contaminated the food, which the cooks failed to notice, resulting in this unfortunate event.
Many children exhibiting various symptoms were admitted to the Harapanahalli Government Hospital and are currently receiving treatment. Fortunately, most have shown signs of recovery, and doctors have stated that none of the children display severe symptoms.
Earlier, on March 18, two individuals lost their lives and over 40 fell ill after consuming contaminated food served during a Holi celebration in T. Kagepura, Malavalli, Mysuru district. Among the sick students, 22 were from Meghalaya, including the two who passed away.
The hostel students had ingested tainted food prepared for the Holi festivities for a local Rajasthani business community.
In addition to the students, around 60 individuals from the Rajasthani community also suffered from food poisoning, displaying symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea. Authorities have filed an FIR regarding the incident.
