Yadgir (Karnataka), July 7 (NationPress) – Tragically, the loss of three lives and the hospitalization of at least six individuals has emerged from the consumption of contaminated drinking water in Karnataka’s Yadgir district. The fatalities occurred in Tippanatagi village, located in the Surapura taluk of the Kalyana Karnataka region.
The deceased, all from the same village, were rushed to the hospital ten days earlier exhibiting severe symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. Over the course of three days, they succumbed to their illnesses.
The victims have been identified as Devikemma Hotti, aged 48, Venkamma, aged 60, and Ramanna Poojary, aged 50.
Numerous other villagers are also receiving medical attention, with at least six reported in critical condition. Reports indicate that while some individuals have shown signs of recovery, approximately 20 have fallen ill.
The District Health Officer (DHO) Mahesh Biradar has requested a comprehensive report on this distressing situation. Health department officials are investigating whether the fatalities resulted from contaminated water or food poisoning, pending post-mortem results.
Health Department personnel have promptly arrived in the village to collect samples from those affected for laboratory testing. Additionally, a medical camp has been established in the village to address urgent cases.
Preliminary laboratory tests, however, have shown no signs of contamination in the drinking water.
In a related incident in October 2024, over a thousand residents in Uppunda, Udupi, experienced illness after consuming tainted water, exhibiting similar symptoms. Most recovered, with local residents attributing the issue to inadequate maintenance of the water tank.
