Is Karnataka's Healthcare System Really 'Crumbling'? BJP Calls for Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao's Resignation

Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 19 (NationPress) The BJP has declared Karnataka's healthcare system to be in a state of crisis, demanding the resignation of state Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. On Thursday, the Leader of the Opposition, R. Ashoka, emphasized that initial reports of medicine shortages in government hospitals have now escalated, with the Congress-led government failing to settle Rs 143.78 crore in dues owed to CT and MRI service providers for the past three years.
"This is not merely an administrative error; it constitutes financial paralysis within the Health Department," Ashoka stated.
Due to this negligence, vital diagnostic services throughout Karnataka are at risk. If CT and MRI services are interrupted, it is the disadvantaged and middle-class patients who will bear the brunt—accident victims, cancer patients, stroke cases, and pregnant women in need of urgent scans, Ashoka pointed out.
Ashoka questioned, "What is Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao doing? A Health Department that cannot settle Rs 143.78 crore in legitimate dues for three years cannot claim to prioritize public health."
He further demanded accountability from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, asking why Rs 143.78 crore had not been released, why contractual obligations were ignored for three years, and why the Health Department is jeopardizing essential services.
"If the Health Minister cannot ensure timely payments for crucial services, he lacks the moral authority to remain in office. CM Siddaramaiah must take action and immediately dismiss Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao from the cabinet," Ashoka insisted.
Ashoka has also provided documents to the government requesting the release of pending amounts, stating, "Due to the non-release of our rightful dues, we have reached a point where our financial capacity to continue operations has been completely exhausted. We are left with no option but to formally request an interim payment of Rs 50 crore to stabilize our operations."
