Bengaluru, April 16 (NationPress) Karnataka Minister for Health Dinesh Gundu Rao announced on Wednesday his complete support for the caste census survey report, which has sparked significant debate within the state.

This declaration holds importance as various caste groups have voiced their dissatisfaction with the results of the caste census report, labeling it as inaccurate.

Minister Rao remarked, "I have thoroughly examined the survey report provided by the State Commission for Backward Classes, led by the esteemed Jayaprakash Hegde, which is grounded in social, economic, and educational metrics. If we genuinely advocate for social justice and equitable living conditions, and are dedicated to these ideals, then it is essential to evaluate this survey report in a methodical fashion. I want to stress that this report encompasses logical and well-reasoned components."

He went on to state, "I fully support the survey report submitted by the Commission. This report will be presented to the Cabinet. Once it receives Cabinet approval, it can facilitate a transparent and constructive dialogue about the report’s flaws and its successful implementation."

"I have taken note of some recommendations put forth by the Commission. There is no reason for any community to feel discontent with these suggestions. I believe that these elements do not neglect or marginalize any community," he expressed.

Some individuals are attempting to mislead the public without even reviewing the report, he highlighted.

"Therefore, I urge the public not to jump to conclusions at this point. Let us avoid creating unnecessary confusion. Let’s read the report first and then engage in open discussions. Dismissing the report as unscientific without fully understanding it is a rash judgment," he asserted.

Minister Rao is from the Brahmin community.

The contentious caste census report submitted by the Backward Classes Commission to the Congress-led government estimates the Muslim population in the state at 18.08 percent and recommends 8 percent reservation for the community, sources indicated.

In a significant turn of events, the Karnataka Vokkaliga Association declared that their community will oppose the caste census report, alongside the Lingayat and other concerned communities.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar convened a meeting on Tuesday night at his official residence in Kumara Park regarding the caste census report, with ministers, MLAs, Rajya Sabha members, and leaders from the Vokkaliga community.

After the meeting, Shivakumar informed the media that reports suggesting Muslims constitute the largest population group in the caste census are inaccurate.
